The Day I Met You

Where the ground lies sour and cold and wet
Thats the part of town where we met
You had a soda you drank with a straw
And I remember the name of the song
The song we played on the day that I met you (x2)

There was a paper bag out in the street
It blew and tumbled around in the heat
My hands were sweaty and so was your shirt
And I remember the color of your skirt
The skirt you wore on the day that I met you (x2)

We didn’t know what to say right at the start
I bought a beer and we tried to play darts
But by the time the sun had gone down
I had another idea of this town
The town we lived in the day that I met you (x2)

You Just Don’t Care

If they had made bathing suits like that when I was young
I would never have survived to reach the age of 21
It aint the way you look babe it aint the way you wear your hair
Its how you shake it like you just dont care

(ch) You just dont care baby you just dont care (x2)
It aint the way you look babe it aint the way you wear your hair
Its how you shake it like you just dont care

Some people go to church on sunday
They kneel down and pray
Some people hit the bars on friday
they try to wash the week away
But I don’t need that baby cause I know that you're out
there
I know you’ll shake it like you just dont care

(ch)

Fire and air are up above us
Earth and water down below
But I have seen some things that the ancients could not know
Because they never knew you baby
They never got to stand and stare
While you shake it like you just don’t care

You just dont care baby you just dont care (x2)
It aint because you told me you arent wearing any underwear
Its how you shake it like you just dont care

Addison County Clay

Well I seen him standing out in the field
Tractor buried up to the axle of the wheel
And as he kicked the tire
I thought I heard him say
Damn this Addison County clay

If it rains too much then your seed’s gonna rot
Or else the sun comes up, bakes it up hard as a rock
And you just gotta laugh or you might lose it someday
Just hang your head and curse the clay

Damn this Addison County clay
It sticks to your boots at the end of the day
Until there ain’t no telling how much they weigh
Damn this Addison County clay
Damn this Addison County clay
It sticks to your boots at the end of the day
Until you start to thinking you might move away
From Addison County

Well he shot his old dog in the head you know
Sure it was sad, but when you get like that its time to go
He didn’t cry until he had to dig the grave
And his shovel got stuck in that goddamn clay

Damn this Addison County clay
It sticks to your boots at the end of the day
Until there ain’t no telling how much they weigh
Damn this Addison County clay
Damn this Addison County clay
It sticks to your boots at the end of the day
Until you start to thinking you might move away
From Addison County

Mississippi

Went to Mississippi moved to Mississippi
Tried to leave it all behind but it all came with me
In the back of my car with some hitchhiking hippie
All the pain and the misery and the bags you slipped me

Mama always told me watch your heart and your wallet
But whatever I pitched I was glad when you caught it
Now I’m stuck in a bar in Biloxi
There ain’t no telling how much you cost me

Death of A Barn Cat

Alfalfa growing up by the side of the road
Little white paw sticking up by a telephone pole
There’ll be a few more mice in the barn this fall
Cows stand around and they're chewing thier cud
Farmer hes a shovelling out the muck and the mud
Cats sit around and they clean their faces
And they’ve already filled in so you cant see where the space is

Its the death of a barn cat
Ah you’re wasting your time to be sad
Its the death of a barn cat
You never noticed him while he was there

Lost his job down at the hardwear store
His mumbling was keeping the customers away they
said sorry Joe, its hard but you just cant stay
And homes been so lonely since his wife passed away
Light snow falling and the geese flying south
Out of habit he turned all the lights out
Lit the house on fire went outside and put the shotgun in his mouth

(ch)

Used to see him round town with a bag full of bottles and cans
Making spare change trying not to cut his hands
Sometimes the storeman would hand him a sandwich
Then one day he just seemed to vanish
Gives new meaning to the word redemption
no name on the grave no one ever asked that question

(ch)

Doctor Bag

Oh I am a doctor And this is my bag
I‘m a little trained monkey with a white flag
Oh I am a soldier And this is my gun
You better head on down to the store in town and get you one

I am a wooden cross On the side of the road
Covered with plastic flowers they can’t let me go
I am poser I am a priest
I’m the sunshine through the window when you need it least

(alright boys, lets go back
lets go back boys to that double track
the work ain’t hard and the man ain’t mean
the cook ain’t nasty but the grub ain’t clean
you sleep on my good beds and call ‘em bunks
you eat my good ration and you call it junk
so alright boys lets go back
lets go back boys to that double track)*

Time is a weephole and time is a test
But you’re the cutting edge that I love the best
I am a tiger I am a train
I’m a blade of grass collapsing in the summer rain

Clever Hans

they call me clever hans your wish is my command
i’m counting on you baby to take me as I am
eyeball me baby while i scratch the floor
i’m getting feedback I dont need more

(ch)- clever hans clever hans
when you stand next to me
I feel like I can add
add it up, thats my plan
don’t stand too far away

they call me clever hans they watch me from the stands
they’d never guess its love that calculates the end
and just when i think I’m on the money
you say you better lay off those candybars honey

(ch)

they call me clever hans when i add up two and two
but then you left me baby i’m nothing without you
not that this sideshow isn’t just fine
but my act falls apart when you aren’t mine
